Psalm 78:18 They stubbornly tested God in their hearts, demanding the foods they craved. Jesus stated that His nourishment was doing the will of the One who sent Him. When Jesus was “invited” to take the “food of this world”, He turned to his disciples and tried to make them understand that just as a human being cannot live without eating, He could not live without receiving nourishment from His Father. Enjoying a good meal is a wonderful experience, especially when we are hungry and the entire body yearns for food. Everyone, including Jesus, feels that need. However, the hunger of the Spirit should be stronger than the hunger of the stomach. Jesus was completely satisfied in doing the will of God. Just as a man is dependent on daily food, so Jesus felt the necessity to achieve the objectives that God had put in front of Him. Ephesians 5:17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do!” All of us would like to eat our favourite dishes every day, varying the menu according to our tastes. Many times, however, we include things that are not good for our health or even our spiritual well being. Knowing and understanding the wishes of God, through His word, is spiritual wisdom. This is the type of food that God wants to give us in order that we feel well fed and at our optimum strength. The Lord has a perfectly balanced diet for each and every one of us. For babies, He gives good quality, spiritual milk. For the slightly older, He has top quality solid food. Very often, however, this is wasted or rejected, despite the fact that Jesus Christ has already paid for it all. John 6:27 But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of His approval.
